Still Hungry!! Gettin’ Hungry Stem 4-Bolt
The Gettin’ Hungry Stem was born in 2014, shouted into existence with the words, “Are you hungry?!?!”
True to its name, it has always been driven by a constant desire for something more—combining a simple silhouette, the smooth, resilient ride quality of chromoly, and a distinctly SimWorks approach to design.
At the time, there were almost no new quill stems being made, and building up older threaded frames with a modern perspective was far from common. But over the past decade, that mindset has steadily spread, and the Gettin’ Hungry Stem has quietly grown into a long-standing favorite.

Do you remember the article about “the importance of parts that end in ‘-le’”?
It’s a message worth repeating, again and again. Saddle, pedal, handlebar—these three share more than just a name. They are the critical touchpoints that connect rider and bicycle.
And over the past decade, the way we ride—and the bikes we build—has changed significantly.

Handlebars have grown wider, with more pronounced backsweep. Today, there are more options than ever—bars that can handle trail riding, city streets, and fully loaded touring alike.
That kind of variety is a good thing. But with it comes responsibility.
Wider bars with increased backsweep place greater torque on the stem. With traditional closed-bar, single-bolt designs, there are cases where the clamping force is no longer sufficient to handle that load. In fact, there have been reports of handlebars slipping during rides, leading to crashes.
Like our other products, SimWorks has chosen to update the design to meet the demands of modern riding.

The Gettin’ Hungry Stem has been reimagined with a four-bolt faceplate. This update follows the same thinking behind the return of the chromoly black Get Around Bar, brought back through NITTO’s craftsmanship.
Rather than holding too tightly to classic style, we believe it’s more important to ensure you can keep riding—safely and with confidence.
And so, the Gettin’ Hungry Stem comes back still hungry—but tougher, and ready for more.

A four-bolt faceplate not only increases clamping strength, but also makes it easier to install, remove, and fine-tune the handlebar position.
It can be the reason you pull an old bike back out to ride with a wider handlebar, or a key piece in building up a new classic bike so it feels just right.
So, to those of you still hungry—don’t forget the strength that comes from moving forward without ever feeling fully satisfied.
