SimWorks by TANGESEIKI – SimHeads

Why does a moving bicycle turn exactly as intended? While this seems like a simple action, surprisingly few people truly understand the mechanism behind it.
Turning the handlebars makes the bicycle turn—that’s true. However, it’s not like a car where the tires change direction to turn; instead, it’s an action that tilts the body of the bicycle. A bicycle is a vehicle that turns by “tilting.” And interestingly, by briefly turning the handlebars in the opposite direction of the desired turn, the rider tilts the bicycle, initiating the turn.

This action, known as “counter-steering,” is something the body performs intuitively and unconsciously, based on an understanding of the forces at play. The intention to turn, the body communicating that intention, and the bicycle actually turning—this trinity is supported by the headset, which enables precise steering control.
SimWorks by TANGESEIKI
Tangeseiki is a precision parts manufacturer that Japan is proud of. High-precision headset components are essential for accurately translating the subtle nuances between intention and action into the bicycle’s performance. We are very pleased to have been able to start SimWorks by TANGESEIKI with Tange Seiki, one of the few domestic manufacturers capable of meeting this demand.
We’re starting with oversized headsets.

Tange Seiki headsets are used on many bicycles around the world. SimHEADS is a custom-ordered model based on the “Classic,” the most durable and precise model in the Technoglide series, which is the pinnacle of Tange Seiki’s headsets, and customized to SimWorks specifications.

Bearing Buddha
The main reason for trusting Tange Seiki is that they manufacture their own bearings. This naturally leads to an extremely strong commitment to product precision, and the stainless steel bearings used in SimHEADS boast a high machining accuracy of ±0.004mm and mirror-polished raceways. Furthermore, when combined with the angular contact structure, this achieves excellent rotational performance and durability.

Furthermore, at SimHEADS, the crown race and top cap, which are typically made of 6000 series aluminum to reduce costs, are specially manufactured from A7075-T6 series aluminum, just like the other components. This results in approximately double the tensile strength and yield strength, achieving both improved durability and a consistent, beautiful color finish.

Before the rider even thinks “I want to turn,” the bicycle is already moving in that direction. Like Zen philosophy, which values the moment when mind and body become one, SimHEADS eliminates the boundary between thought and action, seamlessly transmitting impulses from the brain to the body and from the body to the bicycle, allowing the rider to unconsciously trace their desired path. We want you to experience the precision that creates this perfect alignment of intention and action.
