I Tried out an Activity called Coffee Outside
Hello! I’m Eri, the photographer at Circles Web Shop.
Circles is located in Nagoya, where the city has a strong coffee shop culture of its own, with coffee shops of all sizes, including Komeda Coffee and Compal, and the idea that coffee is the most powerful drink continues to be whispered about as fact.

Having a strong cup of coffee with your breakfast set is a Nagoya staple in the morning, but Circles has breakfast shops that stand out from the norm, such as Early Bird’s Breakfast and Pine Fields Market , and I believe this is helping to spread Nagoya’s coffee and breakfast culture.
Coffee is loved not only in Nagoya but throughout Japan and the world, and is often consumed at home or in a shop, but today I’d like to introduce you to a ritual called “coffee outside” that is loved in the bicycle community.
What is Coffee Outside?
There’s nothing difficult about this activity; just enjoy brewing coffee outside. It can be by your favorite river, in the mountains, or in a nearby park. Pack your bike with your coffee goods and go out, and drink coffee during the ride. You’ll realize that taking a little time away from your daily life while drinking coffee with your close friends and family is the best way to refresh yourself without having to go far or spending time or money.

This is a story from last fall, but after I finished some work that I couldn’t get away from in the morning, I quickly went to Tajimi. I wanted to try this activity called Coffee Outside.
The start time was 13:00, and I couldn’t run all the way there by myself, so I made a bold warp to Seto Station!

In times like these, my BIKE FRIDAY comes into its own. I can fold it up quickly and put it in a bike bag, so it won’t get in the way on the afternoon train.

If you pack your bike, you’ll find that the pedals you use must be Ezy. Say goodbye to snare attacks while carrying your bike. If you have a strap , you can attach the pedals to the bike when you remove them. (The bottle cage was a perfect fit.)
Tools suitable for Coffee Outside
Nagoya is hot, but even though it’s late autumn, my destination, Tajimi City, in Gifu Prefecture, is even hotter! I want to drink some chinchikochin (meaning piping hot in Nagoya dialect, so please forgive me!) coffee in that heat! So I wandered around looking for a spot. I found a peaceful place and started Coffee Outside right away.

With just these tools you can have a lot of fun.
- Gas stove
- lighter
- Pot (narrower openings make it easier to fill)
- Tumbler
- Coffee beans
- grinder
- Filters
- Dripper
- Plastic bags (essential as beans will be produced as waste)
Useful things to have
- Hand towels and handkerchiefs
- Sylvan Works SoLow table (better atmosphere and cleaner than placing things on the ground)
- Nalgene bottles (they are handy for measuring water volume)

The kit wasn’t too heavy, so I put them in a WELLDONE Chips bag 13L and carried them on my back, but I think a cage for a Nalgene bottle is necessary.
However, since BIKE FRIDAY is designed to be folded and carried around, it is important that it does not get in the way when folded. It might be a good idea to combine a stem bag for drinking water and a bottle cage for the bike.

After chatting over coffee about how these beans are lightly roasted, what to have for dinner tonight, and how this thing I recently bought is working great,
we went to see a solo exhibition of a senior from my university days at Shinmachi Building, which a
friend had opened, and it was a day that made the most of my half day.

Coffee Outside is highly recommended for refreshing yourself on the weekends. It goes great with bicycles, so why not try collecting some items little by little and enjoy your own version of Coffee Outside?
