Everything has twists and turns. Why should the design of bicycle parts be any different.

For example, this Fun 3 bar is a bar that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it’s bent three times. From the clamp, the first bend offers some rise. The second bend is horizontal and provides a perch for a light mount or other accessory that you would want perpendicular to the midline of the bike. The third bend sweeps you back, and puts your hands and wrists in a comfortable position.

If you only consider the position and angle of your grip, this can be accomplished with just two bends. Handlebars with the same rise and the same angle can be made by bending just twice. So why do we throw that extra bend in there? I guess the simple answer is that we can. We want the bar to look unique and we like that you end up with a small length of bar that looks intentionally poised to attach an accessory that might improve your ride. It costs us a little more to make bars like this, but it sets us apart.

It’s a treat to get to deal in the details and to express ourselves through our products and offer them to you. For those who design these things, there’s a love and an attention to the minutiae- and when it’s recognized and embraced, the design feels like a worthy undertaking and the designer feels flattered. And then they move on to the next idea, hoping that some day it is seen beyond the confines of their mind.
