Doppo Ronin: The Return of the Wandering Samurai

Initial Batch is Limited to 16 frame sets Worldwide!

Doppo ATB from SimWorks, which has amassed a small but loyal following over it’s short tenure, has been rebranded and released as Doppo Ronin.

This Doppo Ronin is handmade in a small bicycle workshop in Japan. The first batch is limited to 16 units worldwide. Future restocking of these frames is undetermined at this time.

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

This frame is named Doppo Ronin.

“Doppo” means to walk alone, as far as you can. “Ronin” means to be free from everything. Yes, Doppo Ronin is a tool that allows you to move as far as you want, freely, of your own volition, under your own strength.

It may be an introspective journey, but the experiences you have on this adventure, and the people you meet along the way are what enrich your life. SimWorks believes that these lasting experiences are the essence and the joy of riding a bicycle.

I believe that solitude is not “loneliness” but rather remaining independent, and freedom is not “no rules” but the willingness to make choices based on one’s own values.

In other words, the product name “Doppo Ronin” is not just the name of a bicycle model, but we hope it represents the attitude of those who ride this bike.

Thinking about this reminds me of a line from Mahatma Ghandi:

Versatile Concept

The bike concept of Doppo Ronin is All Terrain. While not necessarily a tool for covering distances at the greatest speeds, it will be your reliable companion in various assemblies according to your lifestyle, purpose, and imagination.

Eyelets on the fork, seat stays and down tube allow for expandable loading capacity.

With tire clearance of up to 700C x 43mm and 650B x 55mm, it provides capable off-road performance.

The front and rear ends utilize thru-axles, providing a secure and compliant ride.

As a daily commuter to the local coffee shop. Pass hunting to see the scenery on the other side. Long touring with luggage. Gravel riding on rough roads. As a means to enjoy stream fishing in remote areas. All of these are areas where the Doppo Ronin excels. Perhaps your desires are the very extension of Doppo.

What’s New?

The first original frame from SimWorks, Doppo ATB, was born in 2016. It has been upgraded twice in the 8 years since its release, and now it has entered its 3rd generation with a new model name.

Although there have been no major changes to the geometry, the specifications of the seat stays have been revised, the details of each component have been considered, and the material selections for tubing and braze-ons impacting cable management have been reselected, making it a more modern and considered bike.

We also developed our own original rear dropout.

Doppo manufacturing partner Shinya Hattori and Sim Worker and welder Makoto Yokoyama were involved in this development.

We have developed specifications that are both beautiful to look at and efficient for welding work. Please pay attention to the details.

For the painting, Prismatic Powdercoat from NIC Industries INC., based in Oregon, USA, is used.

The powder coat is resistant to scratches and wear, but also has a glossy texture that gives it a very personal touch. The rich burgundy color plays well with a range of component color options.

From long rides to survey unseen landscapes, riding with a complement of luggage or casual daily rides, this is a modern all rounder that can go anywhere on any terrain. Bring just your imagination and sense of adventure.
