It’s historical significance to the industry as a material that in it’s beginnings was utilized due to it’s availability, its relatively inexpensive cost, and the industrial framework that was already in place to produce tubing, manipulate it and construct fairly basic chassis that would provide the foundations for these wondrous machines. It was only after the cycling industry had developed the ability to utilize alternative materials to steel that some of its true merits came to the forefront. A recognition perhaps that you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s almost gone.

Those same properties that the world’s most discerning cyclists have come to appreciate in a finely crafted ‘Steel’ bicycle frame- durability, repairability, adaptability, compliance, vibration dampening and the list goes on; well, indeed those same properties are equally relevant and can be attributed to the characteristics of a quality Chromoly handlebar as well. Nitto-who makes all of our Chromoly handlebars has been at it for almost a century. In that time they’ve produced millions of bars and seen the industry evolve in countless ways. The shapes and dimensions, and intended applications of some of their most popular profiles have stayed consistent through much of that century. For as much as the cycling industry has evolved and the equipment and products have improved, gotten lighter, stronger, more refined, more beautiful- many of it’s most redeemable qualities remain tied to the foundations that were forged a century or more ago- and those foundations are forged in steel.

For SimWorks these Chromoly handlebars are an integral part of our brand’s DNA. They’re an homage to those fundamental goods in our lives that never go out of style, that never feel outdated, and that only build in appreciation with age. They’re a rebuttal to the passing fads and race to the bottom for creating parts that are inexpensive, mass-produced and lacking in distinction.
