Adam Bell SimWorks Frog Cap

We got in touch with our good friend Adam Bell to play Q & A with him a bit about our new SimWorks cap that he designed and had produced. We’re thrilled to be able to add a SimWorks branded cap to our great selection of headwear that Adam designs and has constructed.

Hey Adam. Thanks for taking some time with us today. Let’s jump in to it…. For starters, how did you decide to use a frog as the basis for your SimWorks cap design?

The frog became the center of the design, he sports SimWorks ”tattoos“, heart and arrow plus 良い感じ – good vibrations – symbols. Through SimWorks‘ input, the ball he is holding in his hands turned into a globe – an impactful image in my opinion, the frog is embracing the world! If your flip up the visor the crown that stands for the prince / princess / king in the story becomes visible. There‘s one in all of us, let‘s go feel a little bit royal!

Tell us a little about how you selected these specific colors for the SimWorks cap…

Picking the colors was at least half easy. From the beginning, it was quite clear that SimWorks iconic Homage green must be used! Finding a matching contrast color was a bit of a challenge but the bright and vibrant blue turned out to be just right and is also very different from all the colors I have used for previous designs. It‘s very subtle and you may not notice it until the light are dimmed but the greenish color contains a special additive that makes it sparkle! A sample of this magic component was ordered specifically for this job! The typical minimum order amount of this additive is 30kg so this special sparkle effect probably will be only available until the sample is gone …

And maybe lastly, what’s the relationship with SimWorks for you…

My relationship with SimWorks is celebrating it‘s 10th birthday! When I published the first edition of my illustrated bicycle dictionary in 2014 I was so lucky to find SimWorks as a distributor for Japan and this encouraged me to travel there for the first time in 2015. SimWorks, Circles, Daisy Messenger and the Nagoya cycling community welcomed me with open arms and I have found very good friends there. Whenever I am able to travel to Japan I always go back to Nagoya. I also was lucky to meet Rie there twice – the first time she was still living there and the second time- after she had moved to Portland, she came visiting for a couple of days or so. Having met in person is very important, it creates a different quality of friendship – and that‘s what our relationship is to me!
